Sevenoaks: Travellers set up camp on Hollybush Recreation Ground ahead of Romany funeral

A group of travellers has set up camp on community playing fields ahead of a funeral.

Six caravans have so far arrived on Hollybush Recreation Ground in Sevenoaks, with more expected.

It is thought to be ahead of a Romany funeral of a woman who died earlier this month in Hillingdon Rise in the town.

Police and council representatives have attended the fields off Holmesdale Road, where it was alleged the group broke locks to gain access.

Kent Police confirmed however that when they attended the scene, they found no criminal offences had been committed.

As Sevenoaks District Council is the landowner, it will be dealing with the incursion.

A spokesman for the authority said: "Six caravans moved on to Hollybush Recreation Ground yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

"It is our intention to serve a Notice of Direction on the group, giving them notice to leave the site."
