A member of Sevenoaks-located Wildernesse Golf Club, Popert is in the running to win the Performance of the Year award after underlining his status as the world’s leading golfer with a disability.

Last year he won the G4D Open Championship at Woburn, beating Ireland’s Brendan Lawlor by a shot, and also claimed the USGA Adaptive Open Championship for the second straight year by shooting 14-under through three rounds in Kansas, including a first round 65 - the lowest score in the competition’s history.

Broadstairs-based North Foreland Golf Club’s Couchman is among the nominees for Participation & Development Coach of the Year after creating opportunities for all members of the community to learn and enjoy the game, regardless of ability or background.

His work includes sessions with players with disabilities in partnership with the Golf Trust, running a junior academy, holding introductory sessions at local primary and junior schools and focusing on getting more women and girls into the sport.

Birchwood are up for the Sustainability of the Year award after consistently working to reduce their environmental impact while championing innovative solutions that improve nature, resource efficiency and the community.

Working with the Woodland Trust, Birchwood have restored 1.2 hectares of woodland within their grounds by planting a diverse mix of native trees. This project not only enhances the biodiversity of the Dartford-based club, but also provides critical habitats for local wildlife.

By sequestering carbon, these trees actively help offset Birchwood’s carbon footprint, aligning with the UK’s broader net-zero targets. They have also achieved zero waste to landfill, increased recycling rates by 35 per cent and developed an innovative water management system, enabling the club to irrigate turf using captured rainwater, significantly reducing reliance on abstracted or potable water supplies.

England Golf chief executive Jeremy Tomlinson said: “Our awards night is always an important and special evening for us, as we recognise and applaud all the wonderful things that are happening around the country to help our great game take strides forward.

“Everyone who was nominated should be proud of what they have achieved, and in what is a tough but ultimately rewarding task every year for our judging panels, we will welcome our remarkable finalists to Manchester in April to crown some of those outstanding achievements on what will no doubt be a night to remember.”
