First Gay Pride event taking place on Sheppey

Dates have been set for Sheppey's first gay pride event.

Pride events, which are held all over the world, celebrate the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) individuals, and recognise the struggles these communities face.

Sheppey Pride will take place over the course of three days from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 28, 2019.

The launch party will be held on the Friday, followed by the Grand Parade on the Saturday morning.

It will go from Halfway to Sheerness and will consist of several floats, entertainers and bands.

Party in the Park, the main event on the Saturday afternoon and into the evening, will be at the Co-op Sports and Social Club in Sheerness.

There will be singers, food, bands, stalls and a fairground.

Meanwhile, the Queenborough Street Party has been proposed for the Sunday from 2pm to 8pm, with singers, food and bars in the High Street.

The group behind Sheppey Pride is now seeking sponsorship and donations for the event, as well as any individuals or businesses wishing to have a float in the parade or who would like to walk in the parade.
