There were no trains running between Sheerness and Sittingbourne this morning.
Southeastern blamed the disruption on a broken down train at Swale Halt.
A replacement bus service is linking Sheppey to the mainland until further notice.
Stations affected at Sittingbourne, Kemsley, Swale Halt (at Kingsferry Bridge), Queenborough and Sheerness.
Southeastern said at 9.35am the broken down train had been moved.
A spokesman said: "A replacement train is on its way to Sittingbourne.
"We we expect the 10.34am to be the first service to run from Sittingbourne to Sheerness.
"Buses will continue until then."
Routine engineering work is affecting train services at Sevenoaks, Dartford, Beckenham Junction and Canterbury East.
High Speed services are not affected.
