The sight encouraged a few wags to make other comments on social media. One said: "I thought the Highway Code said not to park on a corner, bend or brow of hill. Obviously in the railings on a roundabout doesn't fall in those categories!"

Another asked: "Was this a crash course on parking?"

The prang happened on the roundabout at the junction of the Broadway and Trinity Road near the Royal Hotel.

Police were called. It is not known what happened to the driver or passenger.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 2.20am to a report that a car had collided with some bollards in Broadway, Sheerness. Nobody was present with the vehicle which was recovered from the scene."
