A bridge connecting two parts of the county has been reopened following a serious collision which saw a car ablaze.
Part of the Sheppey Crossing, between Sittingbourne and the Isle of Sheppey, was shut northbound while emergency services dealt with the incident.
A fire spokesman confirmed they were called to reports of a car fire shortly before 4.30pm.
Three fire engines attended and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.
There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.
Pictures from the scene showed a white car well ablaze and engulfed in smoke.
Later this evening footage emerged online showing traffic reduced to a single lane while police stood by the charred remains of the vehicle.
There remains long queues on the northbound carriageway of the A249, between the A2 and the junction with the A2500 at Eastchurch.
Congestion is spreading back to Bobbing with further delays on Sheppey Way and roads through Iwade.
Elsewhere in the county, there remains long delays on the M25 this evening headed anti-clockwise between J3 for Swanley and the A282 and Dartford Crossing due to high volumes of traffic.
