Emergency services called to crash on A249

Traffic was at a standstill on the A249 earlier this evening because of a two-car crash.

It happened on the Sheppey-bound carriageway, just after the Iwade turn-off, near the Sheppey Crossing.

Police and ambulance crews were called to deal with the accident and temporarily closed the road.

However, shortly before 6.30pm, traffic was said to be flowing freely on the dual carriageway once again.

Police placed traffic cones around the cars involved, which were a blue Ford Fiesta and a grey Ford Focus.

An eyewitness said the Fiesta was left off the road with the front of it in a hedge, while the Focus had a big scrape down its side.

A police spokesman said: "We were called just before 5pm.

"It is not believed that anyone was seriously injured."
