Sheppey Crossing closed in both directions because of adverse weather and carriageway conditions

The Sheppey Crossing has reopened almost six hours after a lorry jack-knifed.

The crossing was shut in both directions shortly after 6.30am this morning and motorists were diverted to use the Kingsferry Bridge.

KCC Highways tweeted to say the recovery of the lorry had been completed at about 10.20am.

However, Highways England said the crossing remained closed in both directions because of the adverse weather and carriageway conditions on the bridge.

The Sheppey Crossing was eventually reopened at about 12.20pm.
