Sheerness delays: Emergency roadworks cause gridlock on Brielle Way

Emergency roadworks have caused delays of up to 40 minutes getting into Sheerness this morning.

Traffic is queuing on Brielle Way on the approach to the roundabout by the docks.

Three-way traffic lights have been installed at the junction, leading to a long queue stretching back towards Queenborough.

The works are believed to concern a hole that emerged at the weekend in Bridge Street, next to the roundabout.

As of 8.30am, no work was being carried out.

A Southern Water spokesman said crews put the temporary traffic lights in last night so they could start the work as soon as possible.

However the crew did not have time to go to Brielle Way after they spent the night on another emergency repair to a burst pipe in Minster Road.

The lights were removed later this morning.

They are expected to be put back in place tonight, after the rush hour, to complete the emergency repair.
