'Disrespectful' thieves steal Falklands parade podium

A DISTINCTIVE wooden podium made for a Royal British Legion parade was stolen on Sunday afternoon in a Kent town.

The podium disappeared after it had been placed in position for the parade to mark the 25th anniversary of the Falklands war in Trinity Road, Sheerness.

Police say the solid wood podium has a varnished finish displaying the Royal British Legion symbol on the front.

Ch Insp Mark Chambers said: "I consider the movement of the podium to be extremely disrespectful, not only to the memory of those service personnel that gave their lives to restore democracy to the Falkland Islands, but to every soldier, sailor, airman and airwoman, their families and the Royal British Legion.

"The podium itself was lovingly made for the legion. I appeal for anyone that can assist in its return to get in touch with the police."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01795 584182 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
