A man has been flown to a London hospital with serious injuries following an incident at a building site.
Police officers and paramedics were called to Barton Hill Drive, Minster, on Sheppey, at around 12.45pm today (May 28).
A man was treated at the scene for serious injuries and then flown to a London hospital by the air ambulance.
He remains in the hospital in a critical condition.
Around four police vehicles and four ambulances were spotted on the site, as well as the medical helicopter, earlier.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene, which is off the busy Barton Hill roundabout.
The former farmland is currently being developed by Persimmon Homes to create a 700-home estate.
The incident involved an employee of its principal contractor, Houlihan & Co, which undertakes site preparation works ahead of the build and is responsible for health and safety during that phase.
A spokesperson for Houlihan & Co said: “We can confirm that an accident did occur while we were conducting preparatory drainage works on site today.
“One of our employees has been taken to the hospital for further medical attention, and our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.
“We are also incredibly grateful for the support of the emergency services who attended.”
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been contacted following the “industrial incident”.
A spokesperson said: “HSE is aware of this incident and is currently attending the site. We are working jointly with Kent Police on its inquiries.”
Construction started on the site in April, and pictures showed several diggers and rollers working on the land, with the surrounding area fenced off by metal barriers.
Permission for the development was granted by a government planning inspector in March 2020.
Phase one includes 127 energy-efficient properties, which will be a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom houses.
