Sheppey: Ricky Dalton, of Rushenden, dies of Motor Neurone Disease

A heartbroken family are remembering their brave, family-focused son who died, aged 22, after a battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Ricky Dalton, of Manor Road, Rushenden, was diagnosed with the terminal illness in June, 15 years after his mother, Debbie, died from the same condition at the age of 34.

MND is a rapidly progressing, incurable disease affecting the brain and the spinal cord.

Despite his debilitating condition, Ricky continued to live his life to the full and spend his days with the people he loved most.

He passed away at Medway Maritime Hospital on Sunday morning surrounded by his family, including his step-father and main carer George Dalton and brothers John and Alfie.

His uncle, Malcolm Dalton, said: "Ricky was so brave and faced his illness head on.

"His priority was his family. They meant everything to him. We will never forget his cheeky smile."

His brother Alfie, 26, added: "My darling brother, you have made me so proud these last few months.

"I will love you forever, rest in peace."

After his diagnosis, friends and neighbours rallied together to raise money for Ricky to complete his bucket list.

The former pupil of Meadowfields School, Sittingbourne, enjoyed a holiday to Combe Haven in Hastings with his family and a trip to Wembley Stadium to watch Liverpool versus Barcelona.

Ricky, who had learning difficulties and attended the John Graham Centre in Canterbury, was also able to fulfil his wish of going round Brands Hatch in a touring car.

His aunt, Joanne Dewey, 47, said: "The family would like to say how grateful we are for the time we were able to spend with Ricky while he was able to get out and about.

"He kept his sense of humour right up to the end.

"We'd also like to thank everyone for their support during Ricky's illness and the messages of support since he passed away."
