House fire in Sheerness as fire engines called to Winstanley Road

Residents were able to escape from a burning house which had caught fire.

Firefighters were called to the property in Sheerness this afternoon to the fire at the home in Winstanley Road.

Crews found the fire which had started on the ground floor at the rear of the terraced home at 3.20pm.

The fire service was at the scene for about 40 minutes putting out the flames and making the area safe.

Four fire engines were sent and firefighters used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

A spokesman said all residents were safe and accounted and there were no injuries reported.

Police were also called to help assist the incident and firefighters had left the scene shortly before 4pm.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, the fire service said.
