Coastguard helicopter and police called after reports of missing kayaker near the Isle of Sheppey and Isle of Grain

A helicopter and several rescue teams are searching for a missing kayaker.

HM Coastguard is appealing for information in the search for the owner of a kayak seen near the Isle of Sheppey and Isle of Grain.

A helicopter from Lydd has been deployed as well as Sheppey and Medway Coastguard Rescue Teams.

A Sheerness inshore lifeboat, an all-weather lifeboat, and Kent Police are also searching for the owner of the kayak.

A spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “If you know anything that could help related to a camouflage orange sit on sea kayak with two rods in holders in the vicinity of the river Medway, please call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
