Sheppey homes suffer power cut

Hundreds of homes on the Isle of Sheppey have suffered a power cut.

UP Power Networks sent a text to its customers at 8am today (Thursday, Oct 21)saying there was a "safety issue."

It said: "We have had to turn off power to 800 properties. As this is an emergency, we did not know this was going to happen and we're sorry that we were unable to provide you with prior notice of this unplanned power cut."

The loss of power in the Minster area happened as many parents were preparing to send their children to school or getting ready for work.

The power returned after 30 minutes. The outage followed a night of heavy rain.
