Three call outs in just one day for RNLI lifeboats

RNLI lifeboats received three call-outs in just one day.

While many people are sitting back to enjoy a long bank holiday weekend, volunteers have been kept busy rescuing stranded mariners.

Crews received their first call at 7.15am reporting that a 33-foot yacht, with two women and a man on board, was in trouble due to machinery failure approaching the River Medway.

The lifeboat The George and Ivy Swanson was launched minutes later before quickly finding the vessel.

The craft and occupants were towed to the all tide landing in Queenborough Harbour where it was secured at 9.05am.

The lifeboat was back on station at 9.18am.

The second call came before 5pm requesting that the inshore lifeboat ‘Buster’ be launched to a fishing boat with four men on board that had broken down between Rochester and Strood.

The lifeboat found the fishermen just over half an hour later and quickly towed them to Cuxton Marina.

Later that night, the Inshore lifeboat crew were called after two separate calls to the UK Coastguard reported that a red emergency flare had been sighted in the Rochester area on the River Medway.

The boat was launched at 10.25pm before the crew began a search of the east shore from Gas House Point up to Wickham Reach close to the M2 Medway Bridge.

The crew searched for over an hour but found nothing and returned at 12.15am.
