Before her gastric sleeve surgery, Lea had spent years being overweight which over time impacted her mental health. She then decided to take action.
Lea, from the Isle of Sheppey, had tried several diets including Slimming World, Weight Watchers, 5:2 diet and had even tried weight loss tablets, but found nothing worked.
Lea eventually turned to Ahmed Hamouda, a Consultant Surgeon at Benenden Hospital who specialises in Bariatric surgery, and they discussed the various options available before settling on a gastric sleeve as Lea’s best option.
The surgery took place in January 2022, and she has since lost a fantastic six and a half stone.
Post-surgery Lea said: “I can walk around at work, go up the stairs without getting out of breath and play with my nieces and nephews. Most importantly I can do all the things I couldn’t do before like going to the gym.
“I feel like my old self, my mental health has improved, and I am getting my confidence back.“
What contributed most to Lea’s recovery was the feeling that she’d found herself again and the compliments she received from family members.
Her mum and godmother both said that Lea rediscovering her confidence following the weight loss means that they ‘felt they’d got Lea back’.
