Explosions heard as van engulfed in flames in North Road, Queenborough

Explosions have been heard in a residential road as a van was engulfed in flames in what is being treated as a “suspicious” blaze.

Vikki McDougall says she heard two blasts at around 12.15am today from her home in North Road, Queenborough.

Mum-of-one Vikki told KentOnline she heard the first “loud bang” as she was getting to sleep.

The 42-year-old said: “We assumed it was from a neighbour taking out a bin but around 30 seconds later it was followed by a louder explosion.

“We saw the van ablaze and called emergency services. The van was completely engulfed.

“It was a shock seeing it.”

One fire engine went to the scene. Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

There were no reported injuries but a Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman says the “cause is being treated as suspicious”.
