A main road has reopened following emergency infrastructure works on a culvert.
The A249 Brielle Way in Queenborough had been closed since around 4pm on Wednesday, between the A250 and B2007.
National Highways engineers were at the scene where the culvert – a tunnel carrying a stream under the road – had collapsed.
Yesterday (October 10), it warned drivers that the A249 would remain closed overnight in both directions and advised people to allow extra time for their journeys.
By around 12.37pm today, the road had fully reopened.
On Wednesday afternoon, taxi company iCars Swale Ltd had warned customers of the problems.
It said: “Just after the bridge from Whiteway roundabout, there is a culvert under the road. It has collapsed, as has the road, so it's unsafe.
“It needs to be rebuilt and put back in service. Teams are working on it, but it could be 48 hours.
“The chaos will continue, sadly. Please bear with us picking you up and getting you back to Queenborough.
“The traffic is hideous as you can imagine, all the lorries that normally go along the A249 to the docks, plus all the other traffic, are going via the Whiteway and North Road, or via Halfway and Queenborough Road.”
Southern Water has been approached for more information.
