Man charged in connection with Minster robbery that left pensioner with black eye and bruises

Police have now charged a man in connection with a robbery that left a pensioner black and blue.

Arthur Chew said he was at his home in Kent Avenue, Minster, on Sheppey, when balaclava-clad thieves broke into his living room at about 9.30pm on Saturday, October 10.

The pensioner, who suffers with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), was left with a black eye and bruises on his arms.

Yesterday, police said they made an arrest in connection with the attack following an investigation by the Swale Crime Investigation Department.

The force has now confirmed the suspect - Andrew McNair - was later charged with robbery.

The 28-year-old, of Warden Bay Road, Warden, appeared before Medway magistrates this morning.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday, November 26.

Shortly after the robbery, police identified two women, aged 51 and 39, who are suspected to have been involved in planning the offence.

They were both arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary, but were later released, pending further inquiries.

The force said inquiries to identify any other suspects were ongoing. Investigators would still like to hear from anyone with information that may assist them.
