Man charged with possessing explosive materials

A 68-year-old Sheppey man appeared at Maidstone Crown Court today accused of possessing explosive materials.

Norman Phillips, was arrested at a local boot fair on Sunday, June 13, after allegedly being found in possession of four military explosive detonators, a military plastic explosive called PE4, 48 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition and 22 rounds of .38 ammunition.

Judge Anthony Balston today refused a bail application by Mr Phillips, of Marian Avenue, Sheerness, at the brief hearing at rthe crown court.

Mr Phillips was remanded him in custody until August 23 when he is expected to enter pleas to the charges.
