A motorcyclist was taken to hospital after being trapped underneath a fuel tanker.

Emergency services were called to Queenborough Corner, on Sheppey, near the BP garage, after the crash, which happened at about 5.20pm yesterday.

All roads heading to the petrol station were closed by police while crews worked.

Two fire engines were sent and firefighters managed to free the man.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "When crews arrived they were faced with a motorcyclist trapped under the lorry.

"Using heavy rescue cutting gear, crews were able to free the man. He was placed into the care of paramedics and firefighters made the scene safe."

The fire crews left shortly before 6.30pm, but medics were still there tending to the rider.

An ambulance spokesman said: "Ambulance crews were joined by the air ambulance team, which attended by road. The motorcyclist was assessed and treated at the scene for injuries including leg injuries before being taken to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford."

Police left by about 7.50pm.

Officers are now appealing for information about the crash.
