Janet Randall, 79, completes six mile race along Sheerness seafront for Sport Relief

Dozens of people took part in The Sheppey Mile along Sheerness seafront on Sunday.

There were three different races, with around 40 people doing the six-mile one, 20 running three miles and 10 doing the one-miler.

They managed to raise £150 for Sport Relief on the day but mainly online sponsorship brought the total over the £1,000 mark.

A charity swimathon at Sheerness Swimming Pool, off Royal Road, was also going on at the same time.

Jake Davis, one of the managers at Sheppey Leisure Centre who organised the fundraiser, said: “We had all sorts of ages taking part.

“My nan, Janet Randall, actually completed the six-mile one and she is 79 years old. Obviously she only walked it but she still did it.”
