Appeal to help promote the Isle of Sheppey for 2021

Sheppey Community Development Forum is staging a tourism seminar to seek new ways of promoting the Island.

It was to have been held in the theatre at the Sheerness campus of the Oasis Academy on Tuesday, September 29, but will now take place via Zoom at 7pm because of the Covid-19 restrictions.

Organiser Paul Murray, who is community leader at the school, said: "The themes are tourism, leisure and employment. It is our attempt to help kick-start Sheppey's tourism industry to prepare for 2021.

"There will be several guest speakers and an opportunity to contribute. We are also looking at wider ways of boosting the Island's profile and seeking funds to improve facilities for residents. Anyone is welcome to take part."

Oasis founder Steve Chalke will chair the meeting. He said: "We all need to take a role in promoting the Island and being proud of what it has to offer."

The Island has featured in a string of positive articles in national newspapers and on television recently and has been part of this newspaper's I Love Sheppey campaign.

There will be input from Visit Kent, Swale council, two of the Island's holiday parks and campaigner Jenny Hurkett. To register for the meeting, call Mr Murray on 07970 753404 or email paul.murray@oasisisleofsheppey.org
