Call for safety rails at crash corner junction on Whiteway Road, Queenborough

A mum-of-two is calling for safety rails to be installed at a notorious junction.

Leanne Champ, of Mote Way, Queenborough, wants barriers to be put in after a several crashes along Whiteway Road, near the junction with North Road.

The most recent was last Wednesday when a Ford Fiesta crashed into a house at the spot.

Mrs Champ, 33, used to live in the house which was struck.

She has now moved to a new home with husband Matt, one-year-old Olivia and two-year-old Emilee.

She said: "Some drivers come around so fast we had a constant fear someone was going to come through the front of our house because we could hear them wheel spinning.

"The way I laid out my front room when I lived there was as little as possible in that end of the building.

"There's a children's skatepark opposite but there's no crossing until you get up towards Castle Connections and it's such a dangerous road.

"You probably only have to stay in one of those houses for a day to realise the fear."

The carer said she used to park her car in front of the house so the building was not damaged if a driver lost control and her vehicle would take the impact.

She added: "My bedroom was at the front and I was heavily pregnant and I woke up hearing a car crash into the house.

"It's used as a racetrack in the evening, especially at the weekend.
"It's just because of how fast people come around, they know there's open road coming and they put their foot down."

Megan Rowden, who has lived in North Road for two years, also saw the latest smash.

She added: "About six to seven months ago, another car went into the side of the house next door.

"It's the speed they come down for the corner, they are going too fast.

"I've got three children and am conscious of them coming out to get into the car. I go through the back door."
