Sheppey police chase footage shows dramatic moment man arrested in farmer's field

A man has been arrested after a spectacular police car chase ended up in a farmer's field.

A car was being pursued by officers along the Lower Road at Minster, Sheppey, when it careered onto land used for boot fairs, owned by SW Attwood and Partners.

It tried to escape by heading for a track and kicking up clouds of dust. But cops hemmed it in. A ‘stinger’ was also deployed.

Dickie Carew witnessed the drama as he was driving past.

He said: “The car came from Cowstead Corner with six police cars in tow. It turned onto the track and then shot off across the field with two cars following it. Realising it had nowhere to go it went back on itself before being boxed in. An officer hit the driver’s window with her baton.”

He said a man was dragged out and restrained.

A police spokesman said: "At around 2.25pm on Friday a car was reported to have failed to stop for officers in Queenborough Road, Minster.

"The patrol had became concerned about the vehicle’s manner of driving.

"A pursuit was authorised and the car came to a stop in Lower Road within 10 minutes."

A 55-year-old man from Minster was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop when directed to do so, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He has been released on bail pending further enquiries until Friday, May 21.
