Man charged after newsagent break-in at Trafalgar Parade, Minster, Sheppey

A suspected burglar has been charged after a newsagents was broken into.

Police were alerted to the burglary at around midnight on Wednesday in Trafalgar Parade, Minster, on the Isle of Sheppey.

Prior to the shop being entered, two men were seen attempting to break into a cash machine next to it.

The front door of the shop was damaged and items such as cigarettes were reportedly stolen.

Officers spotted a suspect vehicle, which they pursued along the A249 Sheppey Way towards Iwade, after it failed to stop.

The van was identified as being stolen and officers found a quantity of suspected stolen cigarettes inside.

Mark Steed-Shadbolt, of Latona Road in Peckham, London, has been charged with burglary, aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving.

The 31-year-old has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court today.

Inquiries remain ongoing to locate a second suspect, who is described as a white male who was wearing a black Adidas hooded top.
