Police think missing man was murdered

PAUL ROWLANDS: detectives are keen to obtain more information about his disappearance
PAUL ROWLANDS: detectives are keen to obtain more information about his disappearance

DETECTIVES say they are convinced that a 48-year-old Sheerness man, missing since early in September, has been murdered.

Three men in their 30s have been arrested and bailed on suspicion of killing Paul Rowlands.

Mr Rowlands was last seen alive on September 2. Although his body has not been found, extensive investigations mean police believe they are dealing with a murder investigation rather than a missing person's enquiry.

The suspects, aged 30, 33 and 35 and all from the Sheerness area, have been arrested and released on bail until early in the New Year. Details of the arrests have only just been revealed.

Det Insp Maria Shepherd said: "The investigation has not been overtly conducted through the press at the request of Mr Rowland's family and also for operation reasons. However, at this time, we wish to put a stop to many rumours currently circulating on the Island."

Mr Rowland has an elderly mother who is said to be very distressed. Police are still appealing for information about Mr Rowlands' disappearance.
