Postman mail theft trial adjourned

A POSTMAN charged with stealing more than 660 packages from Royal Mail has appeared in court, but his case was adjourned for two weeks.

James Sillifant, 20, of Meyrick Road, Sheerness, was arrested on June 21 and charged with four counts of theft of mail and one count of theft from an employee.

He is accused of stealing seven DVDs, two CDs and a Marbles Mastercard among the 660 packages.

His solicitor applied for a two-week adjournment and he was released on bail and will appear again before Sittingbourne magistrates on Monday July 12.

He was originally arrested and bailed on May 11 following an incident when mail was dumped in bushes down an alleyway off Oak Road and Broom Road, Murston, Sittingbourne.
