A sewage leak caused by a blocked public toilet has closed a town library.

Problems with the toilets at the Sheppey Gateway in Sheerness High Street have resulted in the closure of several council services.

A Kent County Council (KCC) spokesperson said: “Over the weekend there was a blockage in one of our public toilets at the Sheppey Gateway, which led to a sewage leak.

“This is currently being addressed.

"The children’s library on the ground floor is open but, for the time being, the first floor library is closed, as are Swale Borough Council services.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.”
