Sheerness welterweight boxer Gavin Tait has his eyes on the Southern Area title.

Tait fights at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair, London on Thursday and is also on the bill at the Men of Kent boxing show in Gillingham on Friday, March 18.

The 34-year-old has recently signed up with manager and promoter Mickey Helliott in a bid to get his career moving.

"I just want to keep myself busy and these two fights will keep me on my toes," Tait said.

"I feel I’m at the stage where I can fight for the Southern Area title and I just want as many fights as possible now."

Tait, ranked 54 in the UK, was hoping for a shot at the light-welterweight area title in March, when he gets to fight in front of a Kent crowd for the first time in his professional career.

Peter McDonagh is the reigning champion but the two camps failed to reach an agreement.

Tait is, however, hopeful that this will change.

He said: "There are a couple more shows in Medway coming up with Mark Roe (organiser) and he is close to Peter McDonagh.

"I’m hoping it can happen and I’m pretty confident the match can be made."
