Sheerness East were knocked out of the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup 4-3 by Vandanel Kent County League Division 1 East rivals Premier on Saturday.

East were playing against a strong wind in the first half and they took the lead after eight minutes through Darren Brown. The ball fell into his path following a tackle on the marauding Paul Colenutt.

Premier equalised from close range, but East regained the lead in the 21st minute when Colenutt was hauled down just outside the area and Ben O’Neil scored with a free-kick.

In a disastrous start to the second half, Premier scored twice in the space of two minutes to take the lead for the first time.

With three quarters of the game gone, Premier grabbed another goal with a brilliant long-range strike.

East manager Dave Down (pictured) made a triple substitution and, with just five minutes left, Colenutt ran straight through the defence and saw his effort squirm under the keeper and over the line.

AFC Sheppey were beaten 6-2 at the University of Kent in the same competition. Lenny Whiting scored both of Sheppey’s goals in the defeat.
