The Kingsferry Bridge was also closed due to the same incident.

One witness who did not wish to be named said. "It's horrendous. About 15 police cars and four ambulances.

"We could see the person on top of the bridge and they've got fire rescue inflating boats ready to go.

"We drove back up the carriageway the wrong way to get out along with everyone else."

Police confirmed they were called to the crossing shortly after 6.15pm, following concern for a person in distress.

Officers attended the scene and a man was passed to the care of healthcare professionals.

The crossing has since reopened, but there are reports of traffic congestion.
