Sheppey coach Peter Olliver says his squad face a stern test this weekend as they tackle a double-header in order to progress to the latter stages of two cup competitions.

The Islanders make the trip to Surrey 2 Cranleigh on Saturday in the EDF Junior Vase third round and are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Orpington in the first round of the Kent Vase. Olliver’s side will be aiming to set up a clash with Kent 1 rivals Ashford at Stupple Field in the second round.

Cranleigh have found form of late, winning four out of five league games having lost their opening eight Surrey 2 fixtures.

Olliver (pictured) said: "It is a tough weekend and is going to test our squad.

"We are in the last 32 of the national Vase and the final is at Twickenham, and we are in the last 16 of the Kent Cup. You want to go on good runs in the cups and it can earn money for the club which is good."

He added: "Cranleigh is the most important of the two but we want to win all the time and keep the momentum going.

"We have got a winning mentality at the moment and the players believe we can beat anyone. I want us to have that touch of arrogance about us."

Steve Croall and Dylan Davies will miss both games through a back injury and unavailability respectively, while Olliver is also set to juggle some of his players who are available for one day but not the other.

He said: "We’ll see who we have but it should be the nucleus of the same side for both days."
