Sheppey Rugby Club break new ground this weekend when they travel to Sussex side Uckfield in the fourth round of the RFU Junior Vase.

It’s the first meeting between the clubs as the Islanders look to continue their good form in a competition that has provided the best moments of their season so far after a disappointing Kent 1 campaign.

Sheppey had a walkover against the Old Grammarians in the last round after home wins against Merton and Croydon and coach Frank Davis said: "It’s good that we have avoided playing another club from the county and Uckfield are an unknown quantity for us.

"I tend not to do too much research on the teams we play.

"We’ll go there with an open mind and stick to what we try to do as a team. When we play our rugby, it’s hard to touch us."

Uckfield are third in Sussex 1 and won 27-9 at US Portsmouth in the last round but Davis added: "There’s no pressure on us, they play at the same level as us but there is a massive prize at the end, playing the final at Twickenham.

"It’s every player’s dream to play there."
