Sheppey look set to be bolstered by the arrival of a new forward from higher up the RFU League pyramid in the coming days.

The Islanders won last week’s Kent 1 clash with Old Gravesendians 50-0 and are in promotion mix but director of rugby Andy Hosken doesn’t want the club to rest on their laurels.

Last season’s promoted teams Cranbrook and Dartfordians currently occupy the bottom two spots in the division above and Hosken (pictured) knows the club need to keep bringing in talented players.

He said: "They are both good teams who are struggling. We are looking for a top two slot this season and know we need a squad to maintain our status should we make it.

"The player we are looking at will add competition to the forward areas. He’s a big second row and going to add more competition for selection and that’s to a forward line I already consider to be the best in the league."

Hosken was keen to keep the player’s name under wraps until registration of the Zimbabwean, who currently plays in Surrey, is complete.

Last weekend Sheppey ran in six tries against Old Gravesendians.

Chris Bain scored three of the tries, Dave Smith got two and John Kelly was also on the scoresheet, while Brad Box successfully converted most of them.
