A supermarket has brought in parking rules to stop staff from nearby businesses clogging up its spaces.
Morrisons has introduced a new time limit enforced by ANPR cameras to ensure its customers can park at its Neats Court store on Sheppey.
The cameras, operated by Euro Car Parks, were installed on Friday, February 28 and started recording on Monday (March 10).
They will read number plates to record each vehicle’s time of entry and exit.
They will be enforcing a new two-and-a-half-hour stay limit, with no return within two hours. Parking will be free within that time period.
If people are caught staying for longer or for more than 10 minutes between 11pm and 5am they will be slammed with a £100 fine – reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.
A spokesman for Morrisons explained: “The cameras have been installed to provide space management in the car park. The introduction of a two-hour-and-a-half-hour maximum stay is to ensure customers can find a parking bay especially during busy periods.”
A similar scheme has been introduced at St Peter’s Wharf Retail Park in Maidstone which led to a backlash from shoppers.
In January the time limit, also enforced by Euro Car Parks, was changed from three hours to two hours, leading to some customers being fined.
