The pool was closed for the rest of the day, but the gym and classes remained open as normal.

The centre said: “In the interest of safety, our swimming pool has been closed while the relevant authorities deal with a fallen tree.

“Please avoid the end of Royal Road and the path running alongside the pool while the situation is managed.

“Thanks for your patience - we’ll let you know as soon as it’s safe to reopen the pool.”

Just after 2.30pm it posted an update saying tree surgeons had arrived and the tree would be cleared by the end of yesterday.

It said: “ A structural survey will take place first thing tomorrow. Until the building is deemed safe, the pool and health studio will remain closed.

“We hope to provide an update on reopening by tomorrow afternoon.”

Just after 10.45am today, the Complex said a structural assessment cleared the building for reopening.
