Sister of man who went missing from Shurland Dale Holiday Park, Sheppey, in 2017 makes emotional appeal for information

The heartbroken sister of a man who went missing from Sheppey three-and-a-half years ago is still appealing for help in trying to find him.

Suzy Maltwood said the last physical sighting of her brother, Shaune Jones, was at Shurland Dale Holiday Park in Eastchurch on May 17, 2017.

Shaune, known as West by his family and friends, has not been seen since.

Suzy said: “That day, he was selling his caravan at Shurland Dale. He lived and worked in Eltham but had a van on Sheppey for 20 odd years.

“He loved the Island. He’s an animal lover so he used to take his two dogs for long walks there. We always had holidays on the Island when we were younger too. It’s just been something that we’ve always done, that’s why he bought a caravan there.”

At the time of his disappearance, Shaune – who has five children and a granddaughter – was 45 years old.

Since then, his family have not stopped searching for him and Suzy says she will not give up.

“Police have checked the airports, his passport and so on, we’ve had a few sightings and followed them through, but nothing has ever come of them,” she said. “I’m still fighting day in, day out to find him.

“It’s hit me and my family really hard, especially our mum. Not knowing where her child is has been debilitating.

“My kids miss their uncle, I have a new baby – she’ll be one next month – and he hasn’t even met her.”

The 39-year-old added: “We fear the worst now as it’s been so long, but we just need to know what’s happened to him.

“It’s the not knowing that’s the hardest. If we know he’s gone, we can grieve and try to move on with our lives, but not knowing is heartbreaking.

“If he is out there and sees this, we want him to know we are here whenever he is ready; we can listen, talk him through any help he needs, pass on messages and help him to be safe.”

When asked how the whole ordeal had been for her, Suzy said: “It’s been debilitating. He’s my every thought. I make sure all the kids hear about him all the time.

“He was my right wing. It feels like a piece of me is missing.”

The Met Police have been investigating Shaune’s disappearance.

A spokesman said: "If anyone has information about Shaune’s whereabouts they are asked to contact police at the South East Command Unit based in Bexleyheath on 101 and quote reference: 18MIS014878."

Alternatively people should call or text 116 000.
