A CASE against a clergyman charged with drink-driving has been adjourned by a court for a pre-trial review.

The Rev John Streeting, 53, area dean of Sittingbourne and vicar at Holy Trinity, Sheerness, was arrested in Marine Parade, Sheerness, at about 4.50pm on December 8.

Magistrates will decide on January 25 whether the case is suitable for trial. Mr Streeting, from High Street, Sheerness, allegedly had 54 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath when his Citroen Xsara car was stopped by police. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

He was given unconditional bail when the case was adjourned by magistrates at Sittingbourne on Monday.
