He said: “I’ve worked really hard all year in the gym and the team have worked even harder on the car.

“We were quick right from the off, in pre-season testing. We hit a few reliability issues midway through but we carried on working hard and it’s happened for us.”

Securing a major sponsor in plumbing company Multikwik was crucial this season for Harrison, in what is his fourth season in the championship.

“It’s been key to our success,” he said.

“I had a good shout at the title in the second year but it just didn’t happen. Last year was not so good but I worked even harder this year and landing the sponsor was massive. I can’t thank them enough.

“It has enabled us to have loads of advantages which I haven’t had before.

“It was a do or die year and we got it right.”
