A249 reopens after crash

The A249 has reopened following an earlier accident.

The road was shut northbound between M2 Junction 5 and A2 Sittingbourne, after three vehicles crashed.

The accident happened just after 5.30am and traffic was diverted via the Maidstone Road.

A police spokesman said officers received a report of a crash involving three vehicles at 5.33am.

She added: "Officers attended the scene on the Sittingbourne-bound side of the A249 near the Stockbury roundabout.

"The South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended as injuries were reported.

"The road was closed in order to recover the vehicles and clear the carriageway."

The road reopened at 8.25am.
