He had significant blunt force trauma to the head, which had left brain tissue visible.

He is thought to be a rottweiler or German shepherd-type breed and is chipped but it is not registered.

He was taken to Swale Barn Vets in Faversham where he underwent surgery yesterday, which cost around £600 with donations covering the full amount.

The dog will now continue to be monitored by the kennel team but is likely to need further veterinary care.

The stray dog service said: “For the next 24 to 48 hours he will still be considered high risk, as this is when neurological deficits, bleeds on the brain or seizures can surface.

“Bandit is a sweet lad who will only know comforts from now on...”

“We're in contact with the microchip manufacturer and it’s looking more likely that he's come from a country outside of the EU.

“We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in his care. Your diligence in reporting him to the council and the donations towards his vet fees have truly saved his life.

“We're forever grateful to Swale Barn Vets and our kennels who always go above and beyond.

Once he has recovered, he will be looking for a rescue space.
