Behold, the birth of Adonis.

Simone Cook gave birth to her 8lb 4oz bundle of joy at 7.22am on New Year’s Day and named him after the Greek God of beauty and desire.

Unusual as it is, the 33-year-old also has two other mythologically named children, Leonidas - after a Spartan King - who is six - and his eight-year-old sister Briseis, named after the Grecian Queen who loved Achilles.

Living up to his flamboyant name, baby Adonis made quite an entrance into the world, on the side of the A2 in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Miss Cook was in labour for eight hours, beginning on New Year’s Eve.

The full-time mum said: “At first he wasn’t really ready to come out because he wasn’t in the right position.

“We waited a bit and then called the ambulance and while we were on the way to the hospital he suddenly decided he was coming out.”

Dad Daniel John Marriner was in the ambulance with mum and said: “Somebody shouted, ‘the head is coming’ so the driver stopped the ambulance and rushed to get out, but it turned out to be a false alarm.

“Then it happened again and the driver only just managed to stop the car on the road side before he popped out.

“It all happened in about 40 seconds, we couldn’t believe it.”

The pair live in Sittingbourne and Adonis is the first baby they have together, although Mr Marriner also has another child, four-year-old Atlanta-Ruby.

He added: “Simone was amazing, she was in pain for an hour or so earlier on but she absolutely walked it.”

When asked how they chose the name the pair said: “We love all of the Greek and Roman mythology, Spartacus and everything are brilliant and they have great names.”

Miss Cook added: “We’re so happy, it’s the best New Year’s present you could wish for.”

They planned to leave the hospital later that day and have their parents over to celebrate the birth of their new grandchild.
