Biker's 154-mile trek for a Bobbing Big Mac burger

Burger fans made a bee-line for McDonald's at Bobbing near Sittingbourne when it reopened for drive-thru takeaways on Wednesday.

There were several from Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone queuing for a bite and even a biker from West Sussex who said he had ridden 77 miles to get his fix of a Big Mac.

Chris Baker said: "I'm a great Big Mac fan." But he complained: "I was only allowed one cappuccino coffee."

A Sheppey dad out with his family picked up a Big Mac meal, a quarter-pounder with cheese and a chicken McNugget happy meal but said, pointing to his partner: "She's missed it but I couldn't really care, to be honest."

Although quiet when we called, there had been tailbacks onto the old A249 feeder road.

But jams were not as bad as those in Strood and Gillingham which almost brought the Medway Towns to a standstill.

County councillor Mike Whiting, cabinet member for economic development and who lives near Sittingbourne, said: "I have reported traffic issues outside McDonald's in Bobbing to the police on residents' behalf.

"Hopefully, they can do something to alleviate that."

He added: "The amount of litter in such a short time is unacceptable. Perhaps the police should be there catching offenders, too?"

Police said: "We were aware of traffic issues following the reopening of a restaurant. Congestion is not a police issue but we have liaised with the restaurant and local authority to help resolve these issues."

McDonald's has notices on the pavement telling drivers to "wait responsibly".
