The identity of a man who was found dead at the roadside in Iwade has been revealed.

Emergency services were called to Sheppey Way shortly before 8am on Wednesday, February 14, after the man's body was discovered by a dog walker.

Two months on and he has now been identified as Jans Garbens. He was 43 years old and of no fixed address.

An inquest into Mr Garbens' death was opened on Thursday, April 12 and is due to be heard in full at Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone on Tuesday, May 8.

Police say his death was non-suspicious and that the force is no longer appealing for witnesses.

It follows an appeal for information, during which motorists, who had driven along Sheppey Way within 24 hours of the body being discovered, were asked to check their vehicles for signs of a collision.

At the time, Detective Inspector Chris Dovey said: "We are working on a number of lines of inquiry to establish the cause of death.

"One possibility is that the deceased was involved in a road traffic collision."

However, officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit later examined the scene and said it was not believed a vehicle was involved.

Sheppey Way was closed by police from the Kingsferry roundabout to the junction of Old Ferry Road for about four-and-a-half hours after the discovery.
