Lee Hurst in row with Piers Morgan over Morrisons face mask refusal

Kent comedian Lee Hurst is unrepentant despite sparking a social media storm by refusing to wear a face mask in Morrisons.

Lee, best known for his role on quiz show They Think It’s All Over, tweeted about a run-in with a security guard at the supermarket.

The guard asked whether he had a mask, to which the comedian replied ‘Does it look like I have?’ before marching past him into the shop.

He added: “I am starting to lose my patience. You can only remain polite for so long under this nonsense.”

Lee did not say which branch of Morrisons the incident occurred in, but there is one in his home town of Sittingbourne.

The tweet sparked a storm of criticism from other users of the social media platform, including Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan - who branded him ‘a selfish pr**k’.

Piers added: “Imagine finding the simple task of wearing a mask to help save lives so intolerable. Then imagine BOASTING about it? Just pathetic.”

Despite the backlash, Lee remained defiant today.

He said he had gained 1,000 new followers during the row, adding: “The onslaught by Covid warriors on Twitter today (is) causing me to trend. Cheers cretins.”

Lee is no stranger to causing a stir on Twitter, and regularly posts his views on Brexit.

He told KentOnline in 2017 : “I don’t follow any ideology and I’m not left wing or right wing. I float between the two.

“But I sometimes see things and I think ‘That’s not right, I don’t agree with that.

“I do tweet a bit about Brexit because the remoaners want to defy a democratic vote - and I get stick for it.”

Lee ran a series of popular stand-up nights across Kent before the pandemic - and now describes himself as ‘unemployed’ on his Twitter bio.
