Caught on camera: The moment a car skids on the M2 motorway near Sittingbourne

This is the dramatic moment a car was caught on camera skidding off an icy motorway.

The footage was captured on the London-bound M2 between Faversham and Sittingbourne earlier this morning.

Watch: Car skids on black ice on M2 near Junction 5

It shows traffic proceeding along the snowy stretch of road close to Junction 5 for Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone - when all of a sudden a vehicle loses control and spins to the side of the carriageway while a lorry hits the brakes.

The video was recorded by Christopher Taylor and he is urging people to take extra care because of the icy conditions created by the snowfall across Kent following Storm Darcy.

Kent Police has warned drivers to only travel if their journey is essential, and urges people to reduce their speed to match the driving conditions.

Officers were called at 7.10am to respond to a collision on the London-bound M2 between junctions 6 and 5, which involved three vehicles. There were no reported injuries.

A police spokesman said: "Highways were informed due to reports of ice on the road. The scene was clear at around 9.05am."

It is not clear if the accident to which the police were called was the same incident as that captured on the dashcam footage.
