Delays on A249 due to overturned van at the Stockbury roundabout M2 junction 5

There were delays on the A249 due to an overturned van.

The accident happened at the Stockbury roundabout junction on the M2, junction 5 for Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone.

It happened at about 6.40pm.

Highways England warned drivers to approach the area with caution.

The authority said the road was expected to clear between 8.30pm and 8.45pm. It was fully reopened by about 10.15pm.

A police spokesman said: "Officers were called to the Stockbury roundabout A249 at 6.39pm on Tuesday, July 21 following a report of an overturned vehicle.

"The driver was reported to be trapped and South East Coast Ambulance Service were in attendance."

The Kent Police Roads Policing Unit (RPU) tweeted shortly after 8pm to say emergency services were working to extract the driver.
