A lorry driver narrowly escaped injury after rocks were thrown from a bridge.

The HGV's windscreen was struck when it was travelling on the A249 near Kemsley , Sittingbourne, at about 1.40pm on Friday.

Police say increased patrols of the area are now taking place after a group of young people were said to have been throwing rocks at motorists.

The force is appealing for people with information or dash cam footage of what happened to get in touch.

District Commander for Swale, Ch Insp Alan Rogers, said: "Throwing items from bridges is exceptionally reckless and has the potential to cause fatalities.

"Those taking part perhaps do not realise how tragic the consequences of their actions could be but, alongside harming an innocent person, they are risking obtaining a criminal record that will hinder them in later life."

He added: "I encourage parents to speak with their children about the dangers of such behaviour.

"Throwing items from bridges is exceptionally reckless and has the potential to cause fatalities..."

"Our officers will also be patrolling the area and will take action against anyone carrying out such dangerous acts."
